KCOM Hosts pre-meds with the DO for a Day progam

On October 20th, ATSU-KCOM hosted three undergraduate pre-med students on their campus as part of their DO for a Day program.  The students shadowed second year SOMA members for a full day, including attendence at several lectures pertaining to women's health, two hours of OMM lab, and an hour of breast ultrasound practice on a simulation model!  The students were also given a tour of the A.T. Still Museum of Osteopathic Medicine and had an opportunity to ask SOMA members questions over lunch.
This was the second DO for a Day event held by SOMA on the Kirksville campus, with more DO for a Day events coming up in November.  These events are a great way for undergraduate students to get an up close and personal look at what it's like to be an osteopathic medical student.  If you or someone you know is interested in participating in a future DO for a Day event in Kirksville, please get in touch with their SOMA chapter leaders at atsukcom@studentdo.com
For more information about Pre-SOMA events and pre-medical programming put on by SOMA, please contact our national Pre-SOMA directors at presomadirector1@studentdo.org or presomadirector2@studentdo.org.

2015 St.Baldricks Fundraiser Round-up

The totals are in for the 2014-2015 St.Baldricks Foundation fundraiser in SOMA's Region III.  This year, the seven SOMA chapters in Region III combined to raise a staggering $141,740 in support of the St.Baldricks Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.  This year the fundraisers went beyond the recognizable head shaving events to include 5K races, Pie-A-Professor events, and fundraisers at local restaurants.  Every chapter in the region showed ingenuity, endeavor and teamwork to ensure that Region III set a new record for its St.Baldricks fundraising this year.

Region III has again selected the St.Baldricks foundation to be our region-wide philanthropic focus for the next year.  Our mission for 2015-2016 is simple: work harder, work smarter, and raise more.

KCU SOMA joins forces with the Ronald McDonald House

KCU SOMA members teamed up with the Ronald McDonald House and Mercy's Childrens Hostpial in Kansas City to give members a chance to participate in a philanthropic event on October 3rd.  KCU SOMA members prepared the entire meal for over 50 children and family members.  KCU SOMA will be continuing it's partnership with the Ronald McDonald House to continue providing help in its community and to provide future volunteering opportunities for it's members.
