Western-COMP Northwest Educates their Community about Healthy Food Options

On Friday the 16th, OMSI's and OMSII's from Western-COMP-Northwest, went to their local Mega Foods Grocery store in Lebanon, OR and set up a cooking booth in the store. Going along with Region IV’s Community Service Project theme, “Feeding the Hungry,” they felt it important to educate the community on healthy food options in addition to supporting the local business. The cooking booth has been an ongoing project and is held at least once a month. They work directly with the store manager and use only in-store ingredients. Students are given the autonomy to decide on a meal and provide cooking demonstration and samples.

Touro-California and Pre-SOMA

Touro California hosted 3 Pre-SOMA talks at 3 different Northern California Universities. Touro University California is the only DO school in Northern California, which gives TUCA-SOMA the opportunity to share information about Osteopathic Medicine as well as do demonstrations of Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques to curious undergraduates.  At UC Davis and UC Berkeley presentations were given answering some common questions about the application process about what it means to be an osteopathic medical student. At CSU East Bay, a panel of TUCOM DO students from different academic backgrounds answered questions about their personal experiences in the application process and shared their thoughts on how to manage medical school.

Washington OMA and Pacific Northwest University

PNWU SOMA has partnered with the Washington Osteopathic Medical Assoc (WOMA) in planning the annual DO Day on the Hill in Olympia, WA. This is an opportunity for students and practicing physicians to speak with lawmakers in the state to raise awareness of the DO profession.

Touro Nevada Clean Up at Red Rock National Park

Several SOMA members at Touro Nevada COM got together to clean up and groom the trails at Red Rock National Park. Red Rock is a nearby, beautiful conservation area that many community members enjoy so this was a great opportunity to give back to the community.
