Research - Student Osteopathic Medical Association

AOA OMS Research Fellows grant Request For Applications

Dear Osteopathic Medical Student Researchers,

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is proud to announce the Request for Applications (RFA) for our Osteopathic Medical Student (OMS) Research Fellowship Program. This program supports research training of OMSs and enables the OMSs to conduct a basic science, clinical, or health services research projects that will make a significant contribution to osteopathic medicine. Additionally, this RFA seeks to introduce OMSs to the osteopathic research community and encourage them to implement research throughout their career.

The OMS Research Fellowship Program will award successful applicants up to $5,000 for research projects spanning 6 to 12 month research periods, beginning September 1st, 2017. OMS Research Fellows will have the opportunity to present their research as a Podium Presentation at OMED 2018, and publish their results thereafter.

The requirements for fellowship applicants include conducting research in one of the AOA’s five research priority focus areas. Conducting research in these focus areas has the greatest potential to impact patient care and evidence-based medicine and demonstrate the value DOs and their approach to care bring to the medical profession.

OMS Research Fellows will conduct research under a research mentor. Funds may support supplemental projects of existing research studies, granted supplemental projects have research questions and specific aims distinct from the existing (parent) study.

The deadline for application is May 31st, 2017, however, students are encouraged to begin working on their applications now, as the grant application is lengthy and requires appropriate planning.
